Creative photoshoot in August

This was my dream photoshoot - a brief that allowed me to flex my creative muscle after discovering that my passion is to take vibrant and original photos (see May's activities for further explanation). The client wanted to capture her professionalism for her website and PR material (see below) yet also portray her creative and fun side as shown in the image above.

Family photo shoot in July

Did a photoshoot for a lovely family in Cuffley. It was a challenge capturing three families with a number of exuberant children. However I'm of the opinion that to grow one needs constant challenges...the hard work was certainly worth it and the family love the photos!

Backstage Dance Reportage in July

July was showtime for the Premiere Dance School who celebrated 20 years in dance. The style was backstage reportage in black and white - a great hit with parents and pupils alike! Thanks to Alison for providing this great opportunity. We managed to raise just under £1500 for Haven House Childrens Hospice, who do a fantastic job of providing respite and end of life care for seriously ill children.

Photographic activities for May

Joined The London Photo & Graphics Meetup Group - a wonderful way to meet like-minded photographers. The Dramatic Portrait Shoot was great fun and I was able to produce some exciting images

One of the advantages of portrait photography is meeting lovely people and having the privilege of capturing something unique about them. Since I am based close to London, on the East Herts and Essex borders, there are countless opportunities to meet so many different types of people. I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful young girl in Hertfordshire last week...with amazing results!!!

Until now the focus has been mainly on children and adults, however after the success of this portrait session I would love to do more of this type of photography. There is definitely an element of the model or fashion type shoot about it.

New Year, New Ideas

The new year has started very positively! Mark and I attended the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) conference in London, which was very inspirational. It was a great opportunity to meet many wonderful people, particularly since I offered to distribute my lecture notes! One of the many messages from the Business School was the importance of networking. This has been a turning point for me personally as I used to be quite shy talking about photography. Now I will talk about it to anyone who will listen...it's amazing how much people are willing to share with you when you open up to them.

We have had a number of new customers booking sittings, based on referrals from friends and family. Our Christmas Fairs generated a lot of interest last year and people are now booking sittings without us having to advertise.

Today the lovely Kelly had a portrait session. She admitted to being quite nervous at first and not particularly enjoying having her photo taken in the past. A few shots later we were having a laugh and she started to relax. The excitement on someone's face when they see a good portrait of themselves is so encourgaing for me - it means I have done my job well!
